Khaleda losing Red Passport!

DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is going to lose her ‘Red Passport’ as she is neither Prime Minister of the country nor the leader of the opposition at the Jatiya Sangshad.

She is likely to reach at Agargaon passport office around 4:00pm to apply for a Machine Readable Passport (MRP).

Chairperson’s press wing member Shamshuddin Didar confirmed the matter to banglanews.

A red passport was issued to Khaleda Zia in 1991 when she became Prime Minister of the then government formed by BNP.

For the first time in last 24 years, BNP Chairperson Khaleda losing her red passport as her party did not take part in the 10th general elections that held on January 5, 2014.

As per law, President, Prime Minister, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Jatiya Sangshad, cabinet members and officials at embassies are eligible to use read passports.

Meanwhile, the Passport and Immigration Office sources said though Khaleda Zia is neither in power nor even opposition leader but will be treated as a VIP because she is the chief of BNP, one of the leading political figures of the country.
