DHAKA: BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said over 500 leaders and activists of BNP have been arrested in last five days across the country including Dhaka.
He made the claim at a press briefing in BNP’s Naya Paltan central office on Sunday noon (February 4).
The senior BNP leader said a total of 35 BNP men were arrested after party’s executive committee meeting in Dhaka’s Le Meridien hotel on Saturday (February 3).
“Our men are being threatened and harassed. Even raids are being carried out in their homes. Many of them were physically assaulted. Their homes, business institutions were vandalized in name of search raids”, Rizvi said.
Expressing grave concern over the aggressive behavior of law enforcers, Rizvi urged the government to step back from such ‘inhuman behavior’.
He also urged the police force not to be an instrument of the ruling government and act fairly towards the opposition political party men.
