BNP to stage countrywide demo Monday Rizvi briefs the media

DHAKA: BNP is set to stage demonstrations across the country on Monday (February 26), condemning the police action on their leaders and activists on Saturday’s black-flag rally in Dhaka.

BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came up with the announcement in a press briefing at Nayapaltan central party office Saturday (February 24).  

“Over 150 leaders and activists were detained from today’s program of displaying black-flag and more than 230 leaders and activists were injured in the police attack”, he said. 

Rizvi demanded immediate release of the partymen, denouncing the cop action. 

“Protest programs will be observed in all the thanas of Dhaka and all the district sadars and metropolitans on Monday”, he added.

Several BNP leaders including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Media wing officer Shamsuddin Didar were present.

On Saturday, police detained 35 leaders and activists of BNP including Joint Secretary General Moazzem Hossain Alal after foiling a protest before the party’s Nayapaltan central office against the conviction of Khaleda Zia Saturday. 

At least 15-20 persons were also reported injured while law enforcing agencies used water cannons to disperse the protesters.
