DHAKA: The High Court is set to hold the hearing of the bail plea filed by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
The HC earlier fixed Sunday (February 25) for hearing on her bail plea.
The HC bench of justice M Enayetur Rahim and justice Md Shahidul Karim is scheduled to start the hearing at 2:00pm.
On Thursday (February 22), the High Court also postponed the fine and asked for the documents to be submitted to the court within 15 days.
In the court, attorney general Mahbubey Alam moved for the state, and lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan stood for the ACC.
However, senior advocate AJ Mohammad Ali moved was present on behalf of Khaleda Zia.
On the same day, the BNP chief filed a separate petition with the High Court seeking bail in the case.
Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Barrister Kaysar Kamal filed the appeal (1676/2018) with the relevant branch of the High Court on Tuesday afternoon (February 20).
Advocate Abdur Rezak Khan, the filing lawyer of the appeal, sought acquittal of the charge showing some 44 grounds.
On February 8, a special court in Dhaka sentenced five years imprisonment to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and ten years imprisonment to five others in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Khaleda Zia was sent to Dhaka central jail following the verdict.
