DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said his party will participate in polls after releasing party chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail through movement.
Terming Khaleda Zia as ‘symbol of democracy’, Fakhrul said BNP will not join polls keeping Khaleda inside prison. We must liberate our ‘country leader’ first and join polls with her.
Fakhrul made the remarks in a discussion meeting organized for the release of Khaleda Zia at National Press Club on Friday morning (March 9).
Fakhrul said government is carrying out injustice in name of ruling and it’s a not only a problem for BNP but also a problem for all the people. Country facing an existential crisis and people lost freedom, rights and franchise.
The senior BNP leader also claimed that Khaleda Zia has been imprisoned in a false and made-up case so that the government can acquire power again uncontested.
“In 1975, they have established Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League (BAKSAL) to secure their position of power. Now they are trying to achieve the same thing in a different way. They can not stay in power by deceiving countrymen.”
Fakhrul also urged all to build up a mass movement against fascism and fight to establish democracy and civil society.
