Rizvi terms ACC as PM’s own institution

DHAKA: BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is biased towards the people who had been convicted but somehow are in charge of the state offices.

He also claimed that ACC is a personal institution of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina because it is relentlessly going after Khaleda Zia and BNP.

The BNP leader made the remarks at a press briefing in City’s Naya Paltan party office on Wednesday morning (March 21).

He also criticized AL general secretary Obaidul Quader for his remarks on Khaleda’s bail stay. Quader said the government did not interfere in staying Khaleda’s bail after the Supreme Court stayed the High court order that granted bail to Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Rizvi said one thing is clear from Quader’s taunting remarks that the government is actually behind on staying Khaleda Zia’s bail.

“People know that Khaleda Zia has been sent to jail over political vindictiveness. The cases that were filed against her, the verdict and staying her bail order are all part of political spite.”

Rizvi said, “I can challenge that fact that BNP will get landslide victory if a fair election is held in the country.”

The ACC is ignoring all the corruption of the ruling party men but very tentative about BNP men. It is acting like a nocturnal bat that can not see at night time, he added.
