DHAKA: A Dhaka court fixed April 5 (Thursday) for next hearing in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Judge Court-5 passed the order on Wednesday (March 28).
Khaleda wasn’t produced before the court Wednesday as she is ill.
She was scheduled to be taken to the makeshift court in Bakshi Bazar area of Dhaka where the trial of Zia Charitable Trust corruption case has been taking place.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday (March 25) filed an appeal with the High Court to extend punishment for the BNP chief in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
Earlier on March, an HC bench of Justices Enayetur Rahim and Shahidul Karim granted bail for four months to Khaleda Zia.
On February 8, the special court sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the graft case. She was sent to jail on the same day.
The court also sentenced her elder son Tarique Rahman, now acting chairman of the BNP, and four others to 10 years’ imprisonment each.
The Zia Orphanage Trust case was filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in July 2008, accusing the six of misappropriating over Tk 2.1 crore of foreign grant money for orphans.
