DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed doubts whether the ruling Awami League is running the country.
Sometimes it confuses me whether it is AL, who once fought for democracy and caretaker government, he said, adding a democratic party cannot run the country in this way.
The senior BNP leader made the remarks to reporters at party’s Naya Paltan central office on Thursday noon (April 5).
Fakhrul said the government is choking people with an undemocratic system in name of democracy. They are establishing one party rule and distorting democracy.
Mentioning that the Election Commission (EC) and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) have no power at all, Fakhrul alleged that the EC and ACC both are just following orders from government. ACC is investigating the bank accounts of certain BNP leaders some of whom don’t have any accounts in the mentioned banks.
Fakhrul also categorically said that his party will not attend polls keeping the chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail.
