BNP for army deployment in city polls

DHAKA: BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi demanded for troops deployment in the upcoming Gazipur and Khulna City Corporations elections.

The BNP leader also criticized the decision of the Election Commission for declaring the use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in some polls centers citing that most voters are not interested in it.

At a press conference in BNP’s Naya Paltan party office on Sunday (April 8), Rizvi said EC’s decision is suspicious on whether it wants a fair election.

Earlier some election commissioners have remarked that there won’t be any army deployment in the Gazipur and Khulna City Corporations polls.

In response to that, Rizvi said, “Law enforcing agencies are now working for the government and incapable to ensure a free and fair election. Moreover, voters can’t even trust them.”

Rizvi also demanded for a level playing field in city corporation areas, cancellation of EVM and army deployment.
