DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed solidarity with the students’ peaceful movement demanding quota system reform in government jobs recruitment.
Terming the movement as rational, he also said if government reformed the quota system two years ago as BNP proposed then the adverse situation would not have emerged now.
At a press conference in BNP’s Naya Paltan central office on Monday noon (April 9), Fakhrul demanded immediate release of detained students and condemned the police attack on the students on Sunday.
The BNP leader said students are organizing the movement for quite some time now and it is their democratic right to do so.
