Election not on terms of freeing any convict: Inu Hasanul Haq Inu addressing the meet

DHAKA: Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said that freeing any convict can’t be a pre-requisite for holding the upcoming national parliamentary election.

“The government won’t favor if any party decides to join the election on terms of release of any convict. This one is a non-political issue,” he said indicating BNP’s persisting demand to release their party chief Khaleda Zia from jail.

Inu was addressing the ‘Meet the Press’ organized by Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) Saturday (April 21).

“Accepting the condition (of releasing the convict) means accepting the crime scheme in Bangladesh. BNP is intending to strike that very (plan). As part of this, they are attaching the issue of releasing a convict with the question of election”

“They (BNP) are inclining to boycott the election,” he said further.

However, Inu emphasized over holding the election for ensuring the smooth constitutional process in the country.
