SCBA for sending Khaleda to United Hospital

DHAKA: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Advocate Zainul Abedin urged the government to send jailed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to United Hospital for treatment.

He made the call at a press conference at the SCBA auditorium in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon (April 24).

SCBA president, who is also BNP vice chairman, said, “We have heard that Khaleda Zia’s physical condition has worsened and suffering from several critical diseases. As lawyers, we are also concerned of her health.”

“We think keeping her (Khaleda) in jail under the circumstances is a violation of human rights. So we are demanding of the government to immediately send her to specialized United Hospital for treatment.”

Zainul also claimed that Khaleda Zia has been convicted based on false and made-up documents and sentenced to five years in jail. “We hope that the Supreme Court will grant her bail on May 8”, he added.

Earlier on February 8, a Dhaka court sentenced five years imprisonment to Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Following the verdict, she was sent to Dhaka central jail.
