DHAKA: Pro-BNP lawyers of Dhaka Bar Association (Bar) have staged a token hunger strike demanding the release of the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
Lawyers sat for a symbolic hunger strike under the banner of ‘Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum’ in front of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court around 2:30 on Sunday (May 6).
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi delivered a speech via mobile phone, around 3:30 pm.
“Khaleda Zia is kept in an abandoned prison. Environment in the prison is very bad. Even a healthy person could be sick in such an environment. She (Khaleda Zia) was imprisoned in that abandoned prison to be killed little by little,” said Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The hunger strike ended at 3:30 pm.
Advocates Sanaullah Mia, Golam Mustafa Khan, Masud Ahmed Talukder, Khorshed Alam, Omar Faruk Faruki, Hossain Ali Khan Hasan and hundreds of lawyers, took part in the hunger strike.
