SC adjourns hearing on petitions against Khaleda

DHAKA: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court adjourned till Wednesday (May 9) the hearing on two petitions filed against the bail order of BNP chief Khaleda Zia, in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

An Appellate Division bench of four justices headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order Tuesday (May 8).

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan participated in the hearing.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state while Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and Joynul Abedin moved for Khaleda. 

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury were seen on the court premise Tuesday.

However, the High Court on March 12 granted 4-month bail for Khaleda in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Earlier, she landed in jail on February 8, after being sentenced to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the same case. 

Afterwards, the apex court stayed the HC bail order following the petitions filed by the ACC and the government.
