Hearing on Khaleda’s bail order resumes

DHAKA: The Supreme Court has resumed the hearing (Wednesday 9) on two petitions filed against the bail order for BNP chief Khaleda Zia, in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state while Khaleda’s lawyer former attorney general AJ Mohammad Ali moved for her and Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan moved for Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court began the hearing Tuesday (May 8). It was adjourned on the same day.

However, the High Court on March 12 granted 4-month bail for Khaleda in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Earlier, she landed in jail on February 8, after being sentenced to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the same case.

Afterwards, the apex court stayed the HC bail order following the petitions filed by the ACC and the government.
