Khaleda’s bail extended till June 4

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday (May 10) extended bail until June 4 for BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

Judge Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman of Dhaka-5 Special Judge Court passed the order Thursday (May 10). He also fixed the same day for the next hearing of arguments.

Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Advocate Sanaullah Mia pleaded for her bail extension. He also pleaded for deferring the date of argument hearing, in the same case.

Though Thursday was fixed for hearing of the arguments but it didn’t hold as Khaleda Zia didn’t appear before the court.

At the courtroom, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Mosharraf Hossain Kajal alleged that Khaleda Zia is intentionally avoiding her appearance before the court.

He earlier also sought Khaleda Zia’s appearance through videoconferencing which wasn’t accepted by the court.

However, ACC filed the case against Khaleda Zia and three others with Tejgaon police station on August 8, 2011 for embezzling Tk3.15 crore from Zia Charitable Trust.
