DHAKA: Drawing comparison with Malaysia’s recent election, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that how corruption and lack of democracy can bring down any government.
He made the remarks at a program in party’s Naya Paltan central office on Friday morning (May 11).
Fakhrul said the name of Khaleda Zia, who is in the chair of BNP for over 34 years, is being reiterated in the political history of Bangladesh. She has been struggling for democracy and establishing people’s rights in her entire life.
The senior BNP leader alleged that the government put Khaleda Zia in jail to keep her away from politics and polls.
Mentioning that the government is again planning for a one-party polls, the senior BNP leader said, “People have seen how the election commission has been destroyed and BNP leaders and activists are being arrested everyday in Khulna. However, out candidate said at the end BNP will achieve victory.”
