BAGERHAT:   Awami League candidate Habibun Nahar Bina, wife of newly-elected Khulna Mayor Talukder Abdul Khalek, ran unopposed in the Bagerhat-3 by-election and was declared the new MP.

Md Nuruzzaman Talukdar, Returning Officer of by –polls, formally announced Bina as new MP on Monday (June 4).

Habibun Nahar Bina took this seat after it had fallen vacant following resignation of Talukder Abdul Khalek to participate in Khulna City Corporation elections.

The new MP Habibun Nahar Bina happens to be the wife of newly-elected Khulna Mayor Talukder Abdul Khalek.

It is the second time that Habibun Nahar Bina has become an MP for Bagerhat-3 constituency (Rampal-Mongla).

On June 10, the seat was announced vacant.

According to the schedule, the by-polls for the seat were supposed to be held on Jun 26.
