AL man hacked dead in Madaripur

MADARIPUR: An activist of ruling Awami League was hacked to death allegedly by supporters of rebel candidate in the upazila parishad election on Wednesday (June 19).

The deceased was identified as Ershad Munshi, 24, son Belayet Munshi of Sitanath road area in the district town. 

Sirajul Islam, officer in charge of Madaripur Sadar police station, told Banglanews that some miscreants hacked Eashad Munshi with lethal weapon on Sitanath road around 12noon, leaving him injured critically. 

Later, the injured was taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Kajal Krishna Dey, general secretary of Madaripur district unit of AL, contended in the Sadar upazila election as AL candidate while Obaidur Rahman Khan, president of Madaripur District Bar Association and also younger brother of former shipping minister Shahjahan Khan, took part in the election as rebel candidate.

Obaidur Rahman Khan was unofficially declared elected chairman in the Sadar upazila election

He defeated AL-nominated candidate by 8,143 votes, securing 61,707 votes.
