KUSHTIA: A man was killed and five others were injured in an attack of rivals on Thursday (June 20) following a clash that broke out between factions of Awami League (AL) in Kumarkhali upazila.
The deceased was identified as Azam Munshi, 48, AL supporter and son of late Ayub Munshi of Karikar Para.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kumarkhali Police Station, told Banglanews that chase and counter case that broke out between two factions of local AL in Banshgram area of the upazila on Wednesday (June 19) evening over establishing supremacy in the area.
Following the dispute, rival group’s men attacked the house of Azam Munshi in the morning and hacked his family members randomly, leaving six persons injured.
Later, injured were taken to Kushtia General Hospital where Azam Munshi succumbed to his injuries around 9:00am.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to thwart further untoward incident, the OC added.
