MAGURA: A 40-year-old activist of Awami League was killed in a clash with rivals, over establishing supremacy, in Magura sadar upazila Wednesday (August 14) afternoon.
Fifteen others sustained injuries.
The deceased was identified as Meer Kabir Ali.
Police, however, detained 10 persons over the incident.
Police and local sources said Shotrujitpur union ward-5 Awami League President Khorshed Meer and BNP's former organizing secretary for the same ward Billal Hossain had a longstanding rivalry over establishing supremacy in the area.
Followers of both sides engaged in a scuffle at a tea-stall in a Singhdanga area, in the morning.
Around 3:30pm, the clash broke out when the supporters of Billal attacked Khorshed's brother Kabir with locally made weapons, injuring 15 persons of both sides.
On information, police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control after nabbing 10 persons on the spot.
Kabir was pronounced dead by the physician after some 14-15 injured were taken to Magura 15-bed Hospital.
Police members have been deployed in the area, said Magura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sirajul Islam.
