DHAKA: The BNP has not arranged any programme on Thursday (August 15) to mark the 74th birthday of its chairperson Khaleda Zia, now in jail in a graft case.
The party will arrange doa mahfil across the country, including Dhaka, on Friday (August 16) to pray for her recovery and long life on the occasion of birthday for its jailed Chairperson.
Party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme at a miald mahfil at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Wednesday (August 14).
At the press conference, Rizvi said, “Our leader is a victim of revenge of the ruling party. The BNP chairperson is the leader of the masses, who has repeatedly restored the democracy in the country and fought tirelessly to keep the promise she made to the people. Now she is imprisoned for revenge.
Rizvi also said their party’s standing committee members together with BNP leaders and activists will offer fateha at their founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave on the day of Eid-ul-Azha.
Khaleda has been in Old Dhaka central jail since she was convicted in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case by a lower court on February 8.
