DHAKA: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that the ruling government is violating human rights of people all over the country;
He has said the government now prevented them from observing World Human Rights Day.
Mirza Fakhrul came up with the remarks in a press briefing at the BNP headquarter in Dhaka on Tuesday (Dec 10) after allegedly failing to arrange a procession marking World Human Rights Day.
Mirza Fakhrul said that the government is doing this only to stay in power.
Mirza Fakhrul then demanded the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and a reform of election commission to hold a fair general election.
He said as the party chairperson Khaleda Zia is a popular leader of the country, she has been unjustly imprisoned. She is not being given the security and medical treatment she deserves.
“We strongly protest as our human rights have been taken away by restricting us to hold a pre-announced rally,” he added.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, organizing secretary Syed Emran Saleh Prince, Human rights affairs secretary advocate Asaduzzaman and Mahila Dal general secretary Sultana Ahmed, among others, were present.
