Sri Lanka trail Bangladesh by 172

DHAKA: Sri Lanka are at 60 without any loss at stumps on Day one of the first Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

They trail by 172 runs after the host Bangladesh were bowled out for 232 in their first innings on Monday.

After the over-19, the visitors scored 60 runs with Kaushal Silva’s 30 and Dimuth Karunaratne’s 28.

Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka won the toss and sent Bangladesh to bat first.

Captain Mushfiqur Rahim took the highest 61 runs while Shakib Al Hasan, Sohag Gazi and Shamsur Rahman scored 55, 42 and 33 runs respectively.

Sri Lankan pacer Suranga Lakmal bagged four wickets while Shaminda Eranga got three wickets. Left arm spinner Herath picked up two wickets and captain Matthews bagged one wicket.

Opener Shamsur Rahman became the 71st Test cricketer for Bangladesh, replacing Anamul Haque at the top of the order. Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak was left out in favour of seam bowler Robiul Islam.
