Jack Draper’s bid for a third ATP Tour title ended in disappointment as he was defeated in three sets by Andrey Rublev in the Qatar Open final.

The British number one, who had been aiming for his first title since 2021, lost 7-5, 5-7, 6-1 to Rublev, the world number 10.

The match was tightly contested in the first two sets, with both players securing one break of serve.

However, Rublev dominated in the final set, breaking Draper twice early on to establish a commanding 4-0 lead, eventually cruising to victory.

Despite the loss, Draper’s impressive run in Doha, which included reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open earlier this year, will see him rise to a career-high 12th in the world rankings.

Draper, 23, acknowledged Rublev’s superior play, stating, "It’s been an amazing week – congratulations to Andrey, he was just too good today. He outlasted me in the third set after both of us played tough matches this week."

For Rublev, this marks his second Qatar Open title, following his 2020 triumph, making it the first event he’s won twice.

Reflecting on his victory, Rublev said, "It’s amazing to win this title again. After the second set, I felt freer and took control of the match as Jack tired."

Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool triumphed in the men’s doubles final, defeating fellow Brits Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski 6-3, 6-2 in just 62 minutes.

The victory secured their third ATP Tour doubles title, following wins in Tokyo and Brisbane. The pair, who debuted together in September, now sit third in the ATP doubles rankings.
