Tigers’ strike impedes Zimbabwe

DHAKA: Leg spinner Jubair Hossain’s double strike in the third day morning impeded the first innings of Zimbabwe Bangladesh into the game in the third and final test of Bashundhara Cement Test Series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong Friday.

Earlier, pacer Shafiul Ahmed took the wicket of Hamilton Masakadza breaking the record 2nd wicket partnership of 160-run with Sikandar Raza. Rubel Hossain took the other wicket.

The visitors have scored 185-run losing four wickets after 52-over.

Hamilton Masakadza and Sikandar Raza scored 81 and 82-run respectively. Craig Ervine and Regis Chakabva are currently on the crease with 10 and 15-run.

Earlier in the day, Zimbabwe resumed their first innings batting in response to Bangladesh’s first innings total of 503-run.

Rubel Ahmed’s 45-run in 44-ball helped Bangladesh to cross magical 500-run mark.

All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan scored 71-run, his 17th fifty is Tests while Shuvagata Hom gathered 35-run while Mominul Haque and Mahmudullah Riyad scored 48 and 16-run respectively.

Earlier in the first day, before returning to the pavilion, Tamim and Imrul made two records -- the highest opening partnership for Bangladesh and two tons for openers each.

In May, 2010, the same openers scored 185 runs, the previous record against England.

Zimbabwe’s part time off-spinner Sikandar Raza took three wickets while T Panyangara, SW Masakadza and H Masakadza picked-up two-wicket each.

Earlier on Wednesday, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and decided to bat first.

Bangladesh have entered into the game with two changes, opener Imrul Kayes replaced Shamsur Rahman and pacer Shafiul Islam replaced Shahadat Hossain.

The visiting Zimbabwe also have two changes; quick bowler Shingi Masakadza and Richmond Mutumbami have replaced Tendai Chatara and Malcolm Waller, who was reported for a suspect action in the previous Test.

The home side have already clinched a 2-0 series win in Dhaka and Khulna.
