Tigers need 6 more wickets

DHAKA: To white-wash visiting Zimbabwe, Bangladesh need six more wickets on the final day of the last Test of Bashundhara Cement Test series in Chittagong.


On Sunday morning, Sikanda Raza and Hamilton Masakadza resumed their innings with 43 and 26 runs respectively at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Shuvagata Hom and Jubair started hunting Zimbabwean wickets in the early hours to lead the team toward victory.

Till filing the report, Chakabva and Chigumbura were on the crease with 33 and 4 runs respectively while their team 276 more runs.

On Saturday while chasing Bangladesh-set 449-run target, Zimbabwe scored 71 runs for one after 19-over in their second innings at stumps on day-4. Rubel Hossain bagged the wicket of Brian Chari. 

Bangladesh, earlier in the afternoon, declared their second innings taking a 448-run lead in the match innings of Bashundhara Cement Test Series.

With Mominul Haque’s ton, the host made a responsible 319 runs for five.

Mominul Haque scored 131 not out while Tamim Iqbal 65, Mushfiqur Rahim 46 and Mahmudullah earned 30 runs.

T Panyangara and N M’shangwe took two-wicket each.

On Friday, hosts wrapped the first innings of the visiting Zimbabwe at 374. Sikanda Raza took 82 runs, Masakadza 81, Chakbva 65, and Chigumbura scored 88 runs.

Young leggie Jubair Hosain claimed five wickets while ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam took the wickets of two tail enders.

In the 1st innings, Bangladesh, seemingly gave a roaring onslaught with a great opening stand to score 503 runs all out on the second day of the Test.

Openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes hit tons scoring 109 off 171 balls and 130 off 257 balls before leaving the pitch. Shakib contributed 71 runs off 110 to the scoreboard until he got caught by Ervine bowled by Raza.

Mominul Haque and Rubel Hossain both narrowly missed to hit the half century scoring 48 off 100 balls and 45 off 44 balls not out respectively.
