DHAKA: Kumar Sangakkara’s record-making fourth straight ton coupled with Tillakaratne Dilshan’s century helped Sri Lanka set a big 364-run target for Scotland in their ICC World Cup Pool A match in Hobart of Australia Wednesday.
Chasing the target, Scotland scored 29 runs for two 8 overs.
Kyle Coetzer began the Scott’s innings with Calum MacLeod on the others end of the crease. Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga bowled the first over and sent Coetzer back to the pavilion in the second ball of the over.
Matt Machan came to the crease, replacing Coerzer, and began assisting MacLeod. Nuwan Kulasekara made MacLeod walk to the pavilion.
Preston Mommsen and Machan are on the crease now.
Earlier, Sri Lanka scored 363 for nine in 50 overs.
Kumar Sangakkara, who is set retire from one-day internationals after the tournament, became the first man in ODI history to score centuries in four consecutive innings.
Sangakkara and Dilshan have become one of cricket's most consistent double-acts and their 195-run partnership was their 20th century stand in ODIs; only Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar have combined for more.
Sangakkara finished with 124 and Dilshan made 104; Angelo Mathews later added the second-fastest fifty of this World Cup, off 20 balls, but a series of late wickets meant Sri Lanka missed the opportunity for a 400-plus total.
Scotland’s Josh Davey succeeded most times against the Lankan batsmen, taking three wickets. Alasdair Evans and Richie Berrington bagged two wickets each while Rob Taylor, and Matt Machan took a wicket each.
Earlier, Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and elected to bat. The match kicked off at Bellerive Oval at 9:30am Bangladesh time.
The teams made three changes each for what is Sri Lanka's last match of the pool stage and Scotland's penultimate fixture.
Sri Lanka brought in Dushmantha Chameera for his second ODI and Nuwan Kulasekara for his second game of the tournament, and Kusal Perera was also included having been added to the squad to replace the injured Dinesh Chandimal. Upul Tharanga and Sachithra Senanayake were also left out.
Scotland brought in Freddie Coleman, Rob Taylor and Michael Leask, and left out Majid Haq, Hamish Gardiner and Iain Wardlaw. The match was set to begin in slightly cloudy weather, although the forecast for the day was good.
