DHAKA: From now on, Tigers will no longer carry any sign of Sahara India Parivar on their jerseys as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ended its contract with Aamby Valley, an affiliate of Sahara, 15 months before stipulated time.

BCB had signed a 14-millioin contract with Aamby Valley in June 2012 over team sponsorship rights for four-year deal--the biggest of its kinds in country’s cricket history.

BCB canceled the deal 15 months before though the contract was scheduled to end in June 2016.

BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury confirmed the BCB had ended the contract with Sahara, but did not disclose the financial implications of the termination.

"We have decided not to continue our contract with Sahara," Nizamuddin told Cricket news website ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, BCB published an advertisement in a national daily on March 30 looking for a new team sponsor for the home series against Pakistan this month.

Nizamuddin said "That's why we have given an advertisement for a new team sponsor for the Pakistan series. We cannot speak about the deal [with Sahara] at this moment."

In 2012, Sahara had outbid Grameenphone to become the Bangladesh team's sponsor. Sahara had also won branding rights for the national team and the national cricket academy, and title sponsorship and in-stadia sponsorship for 2012-13.

Sahara's financial problems over the past year have been a matter of public record, with India's Supreme Court ordering the group head to remain in its custody pending trial.
