GP covers 3G in 45pc area of Dhaka

DHAKA: Private mobile-phone operator Grameenphone (GP) has covered 45 percent areas of the capital with 3G network for its customers on commercial basis.

In the meantime, GP also launched 3G for its customers of 25 percent areas in Chittagong city and 48 percent areas of Sylhet on commercial basis.

In Chittagong, GP launched 3G at Agrabad first and then it covered Khulshi and GEC areas. It will also cover Alangkar intersection and court areas within a short span time.

Besides, in Sylhet, GP introduced 3G in the half of the area of the city.  

The GP, for the first time, launched 3G for its customers of Bashundhara area on commercial basis on October 8 with colorful programmes.

Later, the GP covered Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, Mohakhali, Dhanmondi and some other areas.

On September 8, the Grameenphone bought 10 megahertz spectrum at $221m in auction with a promise to provide faster internet service to valued customers.

Currently GP has over 4.5 crore subscribers and providing service in even remote areas of the country.

Acting chief communication officer of the mobile-phone operator, Tahmid Azizul Haque said, “The Grameenphone employees are working daylong to spread 3G networks. We will cover 3G in seven divisional cities by December.
