Access to Facebook, YouTube, and other social media platforms will be restored by this evening, announced State Minister for Telecommunications and Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
Earlier this morning, Minister Palak held an online meeting with representatives from Meta, the parent company of Facebook, at the BTRC building in Agargaon, Dhaka. The meeting included senior officials from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), including its chairman.
The discussion, conducted with Meta's Asia headquarters in Singapore, covered various contemporary issues including the establishment of a Meta office in Bangladesh and enhancing fact-checking initiatives to address misinformation and disinformation.
On July 28, the government had summoned representatives from Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok regarding certain video content related to the quota reform movement. They were asked to provide a reasonable explanation and were also instructed to appear in person at the BTRC on July 31.
