DHAKA: Bangladesh is at the second position in the world in piracy. Copyright holders in the country are facing serious economic crisis as a large number of dishonest businessmen are copying thousands of products and services without paying any royalty to them.

The experts came up with these dilemmas of piracy at a ‘daylong boot camp’ to observe World Intellectual Property Day-2014 at Professor Dr Mozaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium of Dhaka University on Saturday.

Bangladesh Copyright and IP Forum (BCIPF) organized the daylong program with the assistance of Bangladesh Copyright office.

The Director of BCIPF Kazi Zahin Hasan delivered the welcome note in the program around 9:30am.

Other spokesmen of the program emphasized on misuse of copyright rules and regulations. Even they criticized the piracy process and selling pirated books by businessmen of Nilkhet and Banglabazar.

They further said if the proprietors would have gotten proper share in royalty then singers like Sabina Yasmin would not ask for financial aid for treatment.

More than often writers or artists do not get their proper share in royalty or feedback for their masterpieces.

Founder of BCPIF, Barrister ABM Hamidul Misbah, former Copyright Register M Manjurur Rahman and singer Maksudul Haque spoke in the anti-piracy programme.
