46-lakh 3G users now in country

FROM PARLIAMENT: Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Abdul Latif Siddique said there are almost 46.17-lakh 3G-supported smart-phone users in the country.

He made this remarks while replying a query of MP Bahauddin Nasim of Madaripur-3 in the parliament on Tuesday.

At least 9.50-lakh people use Teletalk 3G-supported smartphone which are increasing. Several steps were taken to improve the customer care. Some 17 service points would be made in future and four of them are ready be inaugurated.

In another question of MP Md Abdul Oadud of Rajshahi-5, the minister replied that 56 districts including 15 upazilas Sadar would be under the Broadband connectivity.

Government based Telephone organization Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) lost Tk 602.90 lakh in 2012-2013 fiscal year, minister said while answering another asking of MP Mamtaz Begum, Manikganj-2.
