Bangladesh gets WITSA global ICT award

DHAKA: Bangladesh honored with the ‘Global ICT Excellence Award’ in the category of ‘Public Sector Excellence’ for its extraordinary contribution in social development using Information Technology.

State minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak received the award at global conference titled World Congress on IT-WCIT in Mexico around 6:30am Wednesday (Bangladesh Time).

After receiving the award, in reaction, Palak said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who motivated us to introduce Bangladesh as modern and independent nation showing the dream of digital Bangladesh, the award will take her such motivational attitude more forward.

The award is the victory of 16 million people of Bangladesh as they all responded to a call of the Prime Minister in promoting Information Technology, he added.

An expert Committee of World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) formed comprising 80 member countries nominated the nation for its innovative work in Information Technology.

The Awards program aims at identifying the most outstanding users of information and communications technology. The WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards are the center-piece of the WCIT evening program. 

Held every two years, the WCIT is covered by hundreds of local and international media representatives as well as approximately 2,000 senior level private and public sector delegates from around the world!

WITSA represents IT industry associations in over 80 countries or economies. WITSA's motto is "Fulfilling the Promise of the Digital Age".
