DHAKA: The High Court, in its order, said there is no barrier for Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to monitor international call traffic.

The HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Mostafa Jaman Islam on Thursday rejected the writ petition filed by three international gateway operators.

Senior lawyers Ajmalul Hossian QC and MK Rahman stood for the petition while Attorney General Mahbub Alam moved the state.

And Additional Attorney General Murad Reza and Barrister Khandaker Reza-e-Rakib moved for the BTRC.

Khandaker Reza-e-Rakib told banglanews that BTRC introduced IGW operators switch (IOS) on March 24 to monitoring international call traffic through different international gateway organizations.

Later on May 4, three organizations filed a writ petition challenging its legality.

Murad Reza said they informed the court that according to conditions of the license in receiving international calls, BTRC has right to determine any instructional issues any time for operating the calls. It had introduced the IOS under the monitoring.

But, it's experimental. It is not challengeable before the court, he added.

The three petitioners are DBL Telecom, Banglatel, BGtel.
