‘ICT bus’ to train villagers in use of technologies

DHAKA: The government is going to introduce mobile training centers to train people in rural areas in use of new information and communication technologies (ICT).

ICT department will train the youths, including rural students, from this coming March through six specialized busses, said sources of ICT department.

The sources also informed that the ICT department took the initiative under the supervision of information and communication technology advisor to the Prime Minister Sajeeb Wazed Joy and state-minister for information and technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak.

ICT department public relation officer (PRO) Abu Naser on Thursday (January 14) said that the buses are to move in and around the villages in Bangladesh to strengthen ICT training program and ensure freelance training.

A specialized bus has already arrived and expert trainers of ICT will train the youths to build a skilled workforce.

Under the “Learning and Earning” project of ICT department, the air-conditioned bus equipped with the training materials and 16 chairs and tables.

Some 22 sets of chair-table and training materials will be in the next batch of buses, he added.

Initially, the mobile phone operator Robi Axiata Ltd will run the training centers with its workforce with the technical help of ICT department.

However, Hawaii will maintain the ICT buses.

The training program of the ICT buses will start on the first week of March, Abu Naser added.
