Digital transformation requires digital payment simplification Speakers at the roundtable discussion in Digital Transaction Summit-2017

DHAKA: Digital businesses will get expanded only when digital transactions will be increased in the country and if so, then it will also help enhance country’s all digital transformations, said speakers in Digital Transaction Summit-2017.

The summit was organized by Governance Policy Explore Center (GPEC) in association with RallyRound, held at Lakeshore Hotel in Dhaka on April 18.

Speakers said that there are some complications among the digital transaction service providers and users about availability, security and trust and to get rid of it; mass-awareness is highly required.

Dr Md Abdur Razzaque MP, chairman, standing committee on ministry of finance, inaugurated the summit. 

Md Tajul Islam MP, chairman, standing committee on ministry of power, energy and mineral resources and Md Sabur Khan, former president of Dhaka chambers of commerce were present as special guests.

Besides, country head of MasterCard Syed Kamal, President of CTO Forum Bangladesh Tapan Kanti Sarkar, CTO of SSL Wireless Ashish Chakroborty, head of digital banking and e-commerce department of BRAC Bank Siraj Azam Siddiquie, CTO of LankaBangla Mainul Islam, BASIS director Mustafizur Rahman Sohel, general secretary of e-cab Abdul Wahed Tomal, CEO of governance policy explore center (GPEC) Razib Pervez and CEO of RallyRound Naznin Nahar were also present here.

Later, a roundtable titled ‘Prospects and Challenges of Digital Transaction in Bangladesh’ was also held.

In the keynote speech, Nawat Ashekin, head of e-commerce in SSL Wireless, said that digital transaction is very important in digital business. Only 3% of the total digital transactions in the country are done through online payment.

On the other hand, the popularity of mobile banking has already exceeded the popularity of using cards. So, in this regard, all the banks along with all the concerned policymakers and the government should come forward to make digital transaction popular which will make our overall economic development prompt.

Chief guest Dr Md Abdur Razzaque MP said “Bangladesh is moving towards the way to fulfill our dream of Digital Bangladesh. We have remarkably progressed in exporting software in last decade. Millions of youth are now active in outsourcing sector.”

“As a result, we are earning some handsome amounts of foreign currency through this sector. All the banks are already digitalized for which different opportunities like online banking, mobile banking, internet banking and so on are now at people’s doorsteps.”

General Secretary of e-Cab Abdul Wahed Tomal said that the more the area of digital transaction expands the more the flow of e-commerce increases. If Bangladesh Bank and government work together in this regard, then the existing problems in this sector can be solved. 

Head of digital banking and e-commerce department of BRAC Bank Siraj Azam Siddiquie, CTO of Lankabangla Mainul Islam, Head of Card in One Bank Limited Syed Maruf Ali, AVP of Trust Bank Limited Reazur Rahman, vice-president of MasterCard Gitanka Datta, CEO of Biddyut Logistics Masud A Mallick, Head of Card in Mutual Trust Bank Limited Mohammad Anwar Hossain, BASIS Director Mustafizur Rahman Sohel, DGM of Basis Bank Nasiruddin and many other high-ups of digital banking department in different banks were present as discussants in the summit.

SSL Wireless, CTO Forum Bangladesh and MasterCard also took part in cooperation of the summit.
