DHAKA: The cabinet has approved ‘National Online Media Policy 2017’ with a provision of having registration under National Broadcast Commission.

The approval came from a weekly cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the parliament on Monday (June 19).

After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told reporters that many guidelines were mentioned in the policy for regulating around 1800 online media listed in Information Ministry.

“Online media will have to register with National Broadcast Commission with fees except for daily newspapers and television channels who conduct online news media on the side. The Broadcast Commission will then provide regulations for their operating method.”
