Barclays’ no to Bangladesh finally

DHAKA: Barclays Bank of Britain finally closed their banking with private banks of Bangladesh.

A reliable source confirmed the matter to banglanews.

The bank straightly says no more banking activities with any Bangladeshi private banks.

Sources said there is no problem of those banks in Britain who wants to continue their business. Private Banks in Britain can continue their banking activities through state-run Sonali Bank. Already most of the banks have opened their accounts in the Sonali Bank.

Following the matter Sonali Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Prodip Kumar Datt told banglanews that Barclays finally shut down their banking with private banks and the banks can continue their banking with us. That’s why we opened accounts for banking with them.

On October 26, Prodip Kumar visited London to attend quarterly General Meeting (GM) of the bank.

Earlier in June, mentioning the risk of money laundering, Barclays Bank issued letters to branches of all the Bagladeshi private banks in Britain, informing their unwillingness to keep their accounts.
