Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan arrived in Dhaka late Wednesday night for a four-day official visit aimed at boosting bilateral trade ties between the two countries.

He landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around midnight on August 20, where he was received by Bangladesh’s Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin. The two exchanged greetings upon arrival.

According to officials, trade expansion will be a central focus of the visit. During his stay, Minister Khan is scheduled to hold meetings with the commerce adviser and representatives of Bangladesh’s business community.

The minister’s formal engagements begin Thursday, including a meeting with the commerce adviser and discussions with the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce. 

On Friday, he will travel to Chattogram to meet the Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry and visit a local steel mill.

His itinerary includes a visit to Square Pharmaceuticals’ factory in Tangail on Saturday, followed by a series of high-level meetings in Dhaka on Sunday. 

These will involve discussions with the Export Promotion Bureau, the Tariff Commission, the National Board of Revenue, Bangladesh Bank, and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI). He is also scheduled to meet the Foreign Affairs Adviser.

Bangladesh and Pakistan are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding during the visit to establish a Joint Working Group on trade cooperation.

Besides, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is due to arrive in Dhaka on August 23. Several agreements are anticipated to be signed in the presence of both ministers.
