SATKHIRA: Trans border trading through the Bhomra Land Port remained suspended Thursday, for the second consecutive day, as the employees here went on a strike protesting BDR action on an Indian truck driver and seizure of imported fabrics.

Over 300 trucks, loaded with perishable items, remained stranded in the Indian side of Ghojadanga. Bangladeshi traders are apprehending a huge loss, as the stranded trucks are mainly carrying onion and fruits.

Customs Super of the land port Hassan Morshed told banglanews24.com.bd, “The government offices here remained open, only export and import through the land port is suspended.”

General secretary of Bhomra C&F Agents Association Kazi Noushad Delwar said decision would be taken after holding a meeting today (Thursday) to bring back normalcy in the port area.

Port sources said members of Bangladesh Rifles on Tuesday evening seized two trucks carrying imported Indian fabrics, worth about Tk 1 crore, in the land port area and took to the BDR headquarters in Satkhira. The border guards also beat up an Indian truck driver.

In protest against the BDR action, the employees of the land port called a strike from Wednesday morning.

Custom authority filed a general diary with Satkhara Sadar police station in this connection.
