The Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (Bajus) has raised gold prices by Tk4,618 per bhori (11.664 grams), setting a new record in the country’s market. The new rates will take effect from Tuesday, according to a press release issued Monday night.
The price hike comes as pure (tejabi) gold prices rose in the local market. Under the revised rates, 22-carat gold is now priced at Tk2,13,719 per bhori, 21-carat gold at Tk2,04,003, 18-carat gold at Tk1,74,855, and traditional gold at Tk1,45,520 per bhori.
Bajus said that the selling price must include 5% VAT, as mandated by the government, along with a minimum 6% making charge, which may vary depending on the jewellery’s design and quality.
Previously, on October 8, Bajus had raised the rate of 22-carat gold by Tk6,906 to Tk2,09,101 per bhori, which was then the highest price in Bangladesh.
This latest adjustment marks the 64th change in domestic gold prices this year, with 46 increases and 18 decreases, according to Bajus data. The frequent revisions reflect ongoing fluctuations in global and local gold markets.
