Sultan's Dine, Nawabi Voj on Bailey Road sealed off

As part of the ongoing drive following the Bailey Road fire incident, the authorities sealed off Sultan's Dine and Nawabi Voj restaurants on Bailey Road due to their failure to comply with the relevant terms and conditions in running the business.

Meanwhile, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) sealed off a total of 12 restaurants housed at Gawsia Twin Peak building on Dhanmondi Satmasjid Road on Monday.

Besides, a mobile court of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) sealed off Keari Crescent Plaza and fined four institutions of the plaza and Rupayan ZR Plaza in the same area for lack of adequate fire safety measures.

As part of the drive, the Rajuk and the DSCC collectively carried out crackdowns in Bailey Road and Khilgaon areas against illegal and unauthorized restaurants.

In the Bailey Road area, they sealed off the Sultan's Dine as its authority failed to show any valid papers to run the business.

Besides, sensing the presence of the lawmen, staff and authorities concerned of the Nawabi Voj Restaurant fled the spot. Later, the lawmen also sealed it off.

While talking to reporters, Monir Hossain Hawladar, director of Rajuk tax zone-7 who was leading the operation, said that the crackdown is being carried out against all anomalies, including lack of fire safety measures, in the restaurant business across the capital Dhaka.

Meanwhile, police unleashed operations against ongoing anomalies and irregularities in the restaurant business and claimed to have detained 24 people in this connection so far.

Apart from this, a team of Mohammadpur Police Station also carried out raids at different restaurants in the area and picked up 35 staff including managers and owners for violating rules and using risky gas cylinders.

A massive fire broke out at a building on Dhaka's Bailey Road leaving at least 46 people dead and injuring dozens of people on Thursday night.

Later, in the face of widespread criticism, Rajuk on Saturday unleashed drives against risky buildings and shopping malls in the capital Dhaka.
