Women jewellery entrepreneurs demands policy support: BAJUS

Bangladesh Jeweller's Association (BAJUS) leaders on Friday (Mar 8) said women entrepreneurs associated with this industry have demanded equality so that the sector flourishes and women empowerment efforts are bolstered. 

They said a government level training institutes is required with government policy support.

They also emphasised proper training and a safe working environment for women to help them engage in the industry while addressing a discussion of the BAJUS.

The discussion titled “Role of Women Entrepreneurs in Development of Jewellery Industry” was held at the BAJUS headquarters at Bashundhara City Shopping Complex in the capital on Friday, marking International Women’s Day.

At the event, BAJUS former president Dilip Kumar Roy said the country will move forward when men and women work together.

“Women should be encouraged to work and an appropriate working environment should be created for them. Only then, women will move forward and the country as well,” he said.

BAJUS leaders also mentioned that women entrepreneurs should come forward to reduce gender disparity in the jewellery industry.

They said there is a lack of gender equality in this sector and this equality should be implemented gradually. Women should be encouraged to join the sector.

Farida Hossain, chairman of BAJUS Standing Committee on Women Affairs, presided over the session, while Member Secretary Selima Akhter, and members Mehjabin Morshed and Sonaly Sobnom spoke on the occasion.

BAJUS media communication specialist Rashed Rahman Amit moderated the discussion.
