DHAKA: Dhaka University Vice-chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique said unless the financial inequity is removed from society, the purpose of education would fail.
He made the observation while speaking as chief guest at a programme titled ‘Finance Festival 2010’ arranged by the DU department of Finance with the participation of students, teachers, alumni and guests.
The programme staged vibrant cultural programmes, including singing, dancing, recitation, spontaneous speech, debate, and drama. The Vice-chancellor inaugurated the festival at the TSC auditorium.
Dr Harun-or-Rashid, Pro Vice-chancellor, and Dr Mizanur Rahman, Treasurer of the university, were present as special guests.
They said this type of programme would encourage the students to be enthusiastic in exercise of their faculty.
Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies professor Dr Abbas Ali Khan was the guest of honour at the programme and Prof Dr AA Mahboob Uddin Chowdhury, chairman of the Department, presided.
The programme concluded in the evening with the prize-giving ceremony for the participants in the cultural competition and cultural performances like fashion show and band show.
