Prices of fuel oils have been increased as the government has fixed the prices of fuel for the third time in line with the world market.
According to a government notification issued on Tuesday, prices of diesel and kerosene increased by Tk1 per litre, and the prices of octane and petrol were increased by Tk2.50 per litre. The new rates will be effective from midnight.
The price of gas supplied for power generation at government and private plants has increased by Tk0.75 per cubic metre. The government has also increased the price of gas used in different factories’ own power plants by Tk0.75 per cubic metre.
However, gas prices at the domestic level, fertiliser manufacturing plants, CNG stations, commercial establishments and tea industries will remain unchanged.
The price hike will be effective from this May, leading to further increase in the cost of power generation. Consequently, the production cost at industries will also soar, said sector insiders.
According to the fuel oil price adjustment notification, the price of diesel and kerosene has been increased from Tk106 to Tk107 per litre. Octane price has increased from Tk126 to Tk128.50 and petrol price has increased from Tk122 to Tk124.50.
According to the gas price adjustment notification, the price of gas supplied to government and private and power plants, and rent-based power plants was increased from Tk14.75 per cubic metre to Tk15.50 per cubic metre.
The price of gas supplied to different factories’ own gas-based power stations – captive power plants – was increased from Tk30.75 to Tk31.50.
Earlier on March 31, the government set the automated retail prices of petroleum fuel for the month of April with effect from 1 April.
As per the previous price list, the diesel and kerosene price came down to Tk106 per litre from Tk108.25, lowering by Tk2.25 per litre.
The prices of octane and petrol were kept unchanged at Tk126 and Tk122 per litre, respectively.
The first automated price came into effect on 7 March.
Issuing the gazette notification in this regard, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources in a clarification said the new prices have been in line with the prices of the petroleum on the international market.
Earlier, the government on 1 March issued a “Fuel Pricing Guidelines” through a gazette notification to set an automated price for petroleum fuel across the country. It said the local prices will go up and down in line with the international price and every month such prices will be announced by the government for one-month tenure.
