After Bangladesh Bank (BB) determined the dollar price to Tk 117 on May 8, Dhaka witnessed a dollar crisis in the open market.
However, after visiting several money exchange merchants in the capital, it was seen that many stopped selling dollars.
On Thursday (May 9), at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Purana Paltan, some exchange houses were cautiously trading dollars, reports Banglanews correspondent.
On condition of anonymity, a money exchange business owner told Banglanews that each dollar is being sold at 121 taka 50 paisa.
He said, “Till yesterday I sold per at Tk 119.5. After the government increased the rate, we hiked the price by taka two and a half.
However, most of the money exchangers said that they do not have dollars or even if they have, the association asked them not to sell.
Mustafiz, the owner of Chawkbazar Money Exchange in capital’s Purana Paltan, told Banglanews that they sold dollars till yesterday evening. In the morning, there was an instruction to stop selling dollars immediately.
