BENAPOLE: The Benapole land port became active on Tuesday after a day’s of general strike or Band in India on Monday that halted the  trade.

Benapole port is the largest land port between Bangladesh and India through which bulk of the export-import trades of the two countries takes place.

Export and import trades through the landport began at 10am on Tuesday as usal, but a heavy traffic jam in the port area created trouble for the travellers.

On-duty customs official Nurul Haq said over 100 trucks carrying exportables from India entered Bangladesh territory till 12 noon Tuesday while about 50 trucks carrying goods left for Indain territory.

Around 250 to 300 Indian trucks with goods enter Bangladesh every day while 100 to 150 trucks leave from Bangladesh every day.

The Indian trucks entering Bangladesh cannot unload exportables thanks to capacity in the godowns that kept the trucks in long queue.

Senior deputy director(traffic) in the port said whenever the godown will be free, the goods from Indian trucks will be unloaded. Now the Indian trucks have been kept  in truck terminal of the port.
