The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has postponed the distribution of fresh currency notes to the public ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
In a directive issued today, the central bank instructed all branches holding fresh notes to refrain from exchanging them and to keep them in reserve.
Banks have been advised to conduct all cash transactions using re-circulated notes instead.
Speaking to BSS, a senior BB official stated that new-design banknotes are expected to be introduced between April and May.
As a result, the circulation of existing notes with previous designs has been suspended, and they are gradually being withdrawn from the market.
