Bangladesh received a record $3.29 billion in remittances in March, crossing the $3 billion mark in a single month for the first time, according to Bangladesh Bank report.
This is a 65% increase compared to the same month last year.
According to the Central Bank, the remittance flow increased mainly due to the Eid-ul-Fitr festival. From March 27 to 31, expatriates sent $345 million. In the first 26 days of the month, remittances had already reached $2.94 billion, breaking all previous monthly records.
From July to March of the current fiscal year, total remittance inflow stood at $21.77 billion. This was $16.69 billion during the same period last year.
According to officials, more remittances are now coming through legal channels.
